Second Edition

2014-2021

Things are about to change!

After 14 years since the original release of the game, Hans im Glück decided it was time for a revamp!

This new art style, later referred to as C2, would show a big change in the visuals of Carcassonne. The art for this new style was provided by Anne Pätzke, who designed the Winter Edition a few years prior.

The C2 art is characterised by its more detailed artwork, as well as more vibrant colours on the tiles. It took some getting used to for many players and collectors, and some prefer one art style over the other.

When first released, this art style saw a darker brown in the cities, as well as more saturated colours all around. This was changed around mid-2015 to be a lighter brown. It is said this was at the request of Klaus-Jürgen Wrede himself.

Late editions of the C2 games (around 2019) also saw the introduction of more rounded corners on the tiles. This is often attributed to the third edition, but can also be found on some C2 releases.

From this page, you can browse the Carcassonne Museum’s wide collection of base games in the second (C2) art style. If you’re not sure which version you have, please check below and find out!
