No boxes were physically harmed in the making of this comparison.

You’ll find that all pictures on this site are pictures of actual boxes in our collection. We believe we have every version of the Second Edition base game of Carcassonne in the English language. If you are not sure which box you have, have a look below or contact us and we’ll be able to tell you!

Z-Man Games, first printing

2014

Z-Man Games followed the German example of the new artwork, in a box of a similar design to the German one. Z-Man now had the distribution rights for all English language territories, collaborating with Asmodee for distribution worldwide. Some local publishers still handle distribution (like PixelPark in New Zealand), however, the boxes are all under the ZMG brand.

2019

With the update of the German boxes, Z-Man Games followed suit with their 2019 release. The front of the box saw a few minor updates, with a bigger re-design on the back of the box. A less crowded view of an example landscape and easy-to-read information about the game made this a great update to the design of the box for the game!

This is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it change. Due to changes in regulations for import and export, the UK distribution for Carcassonne was separated from the other EU distribution, although still done by Asmodee UK. The small change on the box can be found on the bottom of the back of the box, showing distribution in the UK alone.
