First Edition
2000-2014
The start of our journey!
The game of Carcassonne was released in the year 2000, making its debut at the Spiel convention in Essen (Germany). It was an instant success and has been growing ever since. The original art style, provided by Doris Matthäus, is well-known and has had the longest run of all so far!
As per our current count, there have been 75 different boxes released of the game in this art! Have a look at how many the Carcassonne Museum has in its collection, and see which one you have!
This art style is referred to as C1.
Second Edition
2014-2021
The follow-up, Carcassonne saw a revamp in the art style in 2014.
The art was provided by Anne Pätzke, who changed the look of the game, and with it, we saw many new releases! Although this edition was around much shorter than the first, a whopping 47 different releases found their way into the world, spanning 36 languages!

This art style is referred to as C2.
Third Edition
2021-Present
The relaunch, a third edition of Carcassonne was released in early 2021.
Hints of this new art style had been given in the years leading up to it, with some expansions and promos designed by Marcel Gröber.
Marcel went on to redesign the base game, which also saw an updated logo and redesigned box! We have already seen 20 different releases for this, although many more are sure to follow!
