Custom meeples by mp.works
We’ve been a big fan of Mike and @mp.works on Instagram for quite a while now. Among his many creations are these amazing meeple sets: the Oreo meeple, Cheese meeple, and See-through meeple with some accessories in them!
Our Cheese meeple must have brought us lots of luck, as we managed to win the game!
Dan Character Meeples
This is our friend Dan. The human version of Dan is one of the owners of CarcassonneCentral; the meeple version of Dan helps promote CarcassonneCentral at Essen Spiel.
This custom character meeple of Dan was created by MeepleSource as a result of him winning a contest they were running. How cool is it to be able to play Carcassonne with meeples that look like you?
The Book of Carcassonne
Dan’s other claim to fame is having published a strategy guide along with Steve Dee, who has written several strategy guides and other tabletop-gaming books before.
Dan is a well-respected Carcassonne player and collector, and has made a big impact in the Carcassonne fan-community over the years. It is very difficult to find a major fan-event for Carcassonne where Dan was not involved in one way or another.
He has done a lot for the international fan-community, and in this book he shares his vast knowledge with everyone!
Laser-cut Carcassonne
This is a laser-cut version of the Carcassonne game, using plywood tiles! It has the full base game of tiles, cut into 1 side of the tiles. No backside on this set, although the blank back allows for a personal touch if you want to add the ‘C’ to the back.
Not only does this set contain the full base game, but it also has the river! As there is no design on the back of the tiles, there are no dark backs for these, but again, this can be solved with some elbow grease 😉
Carcassonne in 3D
Every now and again, we like to dig up this special 3D-printed set of Carcassonne for a game! This set consists of a full base game, the river, and the labyrinth expansions, all 3D printed and handpainted. The extra clever bit is that the sides have different shapes, so you have to match the landscape or it won’t fit!
Kadoos
This game, called Kadoos, or Kadous, was released in Iran! We’re not 100% sure by who, or even when! On the back it refers to Aban Games, however, their website is no longer online. There is no real date showing on the box, other than icons of awards it has won between 2001-2004.
The game does reference Carcassonne as the best-selling game it is, but doesn’t really say if it is supposed to be Carcassonne, or inspired by it… As we are no experts on licensing, we don’t know how official this game is, but to say it is inspired by Carcassonne would be an understatement!
The tiles are larger than the Carcassonne tiles, and the meeples are made of foam!
We love the score track too, which just looks so special with the counter going up, in Persian/Farsi!
Ghaleh Roodkhan
Published by HeroGame and based on the famous Rudkhan castle in the Gilan province in Iran! We don’t know the exact workings of the licensing, but this is an interesting local version of our beloved game!
The artwork is very different and the tiles are much bigger than the standard Carcassonne tiles, with a different character on the back!
The game comes with their version of the River expansion, as well as a Trade expansion. These are cubes that can be placed on specific markets, and work similarly to abbots, but not really.
Sich
Apart from the official Ukrainian versions of Carcassonne, there is also this fan-made version! “Січі” or Sich was made by our friend Volodymyr.
The game follows the tile-laying mechanic and rules of Carcassonne, but has some added elements, all directly from Ukrainian history!
Pokéssonne
Pokéssonne is a fan re-skin of the game, fully in Pokémon theme! The graphics are more from the FireRed/LeafGreen versions, as they are in full colour and it works very nicely for a Carcassonne-style game!
Tall grass works as cities, roads are roads, and Pokécenters are monasteries! There’s even the full River I and River II, filled with Pokémon!
Super Mariossonne
Mariossonne was designed by a big Carcassonne fan from Japan, who thought the elements of Carcassonne could nicely be combined with those from the Super Mario game! Roads are bricks, Cities are the inside of castles and monasteries are the castles themselves.
The game plays the same as regular Carcassonne, but isn’t it cool to be able to play a Super Mario-themed Carcassonne game?! We just hope that the Princess is not in another castle……
Zeldassonne
From the same Japanese artist who brought us Mariossonne comes Zeldassonne! You can build the Kingdom of Hyrule with these beautifully-illustrated tiles. You may not discover the secrets of the Tri-Force while playing this game, though there’s always room for a fan-expansion to this fan-made spin-off.
The Adults of Carcassonne
This is a drinking game called The Adults of Carcassonne, made by Ted Tronson of the old Carcassonne Shoppe. It was launched as a Kickstarter campaign in early 2014.
The idea is that you play a game of Carcassonne with these coasters, but instead of using meeple, you use coloured shot glasses with a beverage of your picking. When you finish a feature, you get your shot glass back and consume its contents!
City of Carcassonne Sugar Cubes
The wrappers of this set of 10 sugar cubes make up an image of the city of Carcassonne! It’s not related to the game, but still a great souvenir from the actual City of Carcassonne!
Aude Gate Wooden Relief
Throughout our journey of collecting for this wonderful game, we’ve picked up a few special things along the way! This beautiful wooden relief depicts the famous Aude gate to the city of Carcassonne!
This piece of art fits in beautifully with our collection, further showing the great original box art for the game and its amazing resemblance to the actual gate to the city!
2015 World Cup of Carcassonne Central Commemorative Tile
This commemorative tile was made for the 2015 World Cup of Carcassonne Central. Long before national tournaments started using BoardGameArena, the members of Carcassonne Central held their own online tournament using JCloisterZone.
40 players from all over the world competed against each other until Merlin_89 was crowned the winner! We love these tournaments and the way they bring an international Carcassonne community closer together!
2022 Carcassonne Spain Promos
Carcassonne Spain has a very talented team of active Carcassonne fans, and they put together this amazing promo for the 2022 Spanish National Carcassonne Championship! This promo was even made in both the C1 and C2 artworks!
Carcassonne Brazil Wooden Box
A lot of hard work has gone into growing the fan community in Brazil! In 2020, the amazing Brazilian wood artist and Carcassonne player @guiziegler brought out these amazing handmade boxes!
This beautiful wooden box has space for a full base game, with space for 40 meeples to be ready to play! The score track is divided into two wooden plates, to easily keep track of the score during the game, and everything fits into the wooden box very nicely!
Metal Starting Tiles
In 2020, Carcassonne Brasil released these amazing metal starting tiles as promotional items for their tournaments! The black tiles (with black or white roads) were sold internationally, becoming very desired by many Carcassonne collectors!
They also made bronze, silver and gold versions, which were given to winners of the local tournaments, and were not available outside of these. Our bronze tile was donated to the Carcassonne Museum by Melvin Quaresma and TheusGladiador.
The Capibara
The Capibara is a fan-expansion made by the Carcassonne Brasil team for a local tournament on the 23rd of August 2022.
If you complete a feature in the vicinity of the Capibara tile, you get bonus points depending on how many tiles are surrounding the Capibara tile!
Pampulha
For the Carcassonne Brasil tournament on the 17th of September 2022, another little mini fan-expansion was made, called Pampulha, or SouthEast. This one is very similar to the Capibara, but also includes a Caiman!
When placing the tile, the active player must decide to either place the Capibara figure, or the Caiman figure on it. Depending on which figure is placed, all features completed in the vicinity of the tile have their scoring altered. If the Capibara figure is present, scores for features are doubled! If the Caiman figure is present, scores for features are halved! (Rounded down!)
Campaign Coins Metal Meeples
Campaign Coins are known for making beautiful metal coins and tokens for tabletop games, and they decided it was time for some metal meeple! They launched a Kickstarter for these, back in May 2018, and boy was it popular! It reached the goal within 24 hours, and we were not surprised!
These meeple are all made from die cast metal, with hand-polished edges, a unique antique metal finish, and unique design for each meeple!
100-point Scoring Track
The Carcassonne fan community is a very active one, and have come up with various solutions for keeping score in large games. On Carcassonne Central, we saw a design from Snearone, of this amazing 100-point scoring track! The design is simply beautiful, with a River Spring coming from the middle! This homemade copy was donated to the Carcassonne Museum by Snearone.
New King’s Orders
Based on ‘By Order of the King’, a fan-expansion by Jeffrey Putnam, ‘New King’s Orders’ by Snearone, brings 54 cards to the game. The cards are split into three tiers, indicated by symbols on the cards. At the beginning of the game, the cards are split into three stacks, according to their tiers.
Each player draws two cards from each stack, and chooses one per tier to keep, discarding the other one. The remaining cards are shuffled together for the game. The cards include challenges for the players to complete during the game, which give bonus points.
Extra Bridges
Bridges were introduced to the world of Carcassonne in 2010, with the release of the 8th expansion, Bridges, Castles & Bazaars. Fans have been loving the idea, and it wasn’t long before alternative versions have been made.
Skew bridges, T-bridges, X-bridges, double-length bridges, and even triple-length bridges have been created, allowing you to overcome almost any obstacle.
