Third Edition

2021-Current

It started small, but minor changes to the artwork in new mini-expansions started to show. New artist Marcel Gröber was putting his stamp on new releases, showing even more detailed art on the tiles.

Cities were becoming busier with more houses, showing some houses being cut off by the edges of the tiles.

More decorations were added to the tiles on roads and monasteries as well, showing how much you can fit on such a small tile.

It was unclear to the fandom if this was a new edition of the game, until Hans im Glück confirmed it as Carcassonne’s third edition in 2021. Within the fandom, this is often referred to as C3.

From this page, you can browse the Carcassonne Museum’s wide collection of base games in the third (C3) art style. If you’re not sure which version you have, please check below and find out!
