Le Sac
After the first major expansion was released, people started noticing slight variations in the colour on the back of the tiles. To help resolve this, Hans im Glück released a tile bag, “Le Sac“, at the 2002 Essen game fair.
Later we saw a new tile bag included in the second major expansion, as well as a slightly larger one being available on the Cundco.de webshop. The Russian publisher Hobby World also released 2 different tile bags over the years. New designs were released for the 20th anniversary of the game.
Wooden Tile Tower
With the release of the fourth major expansion, The Tower, there was another new way to draw tiles during a game. A cardboard tower was included, allowing people to stack up their tiles and draw them from the very theme of the expansion!
Recently, the Carcassonne Museum was surprised and amazed by this! A wooden tile tower, fully decorated in the theme of the Tower, with even the Carcassonne Museum engraved on it!
Sliding Tile Tower
This tower from LuckySix works a little bit differently than tile towers we’ve seen before. You can load up the tiles by removing the back of the tower, which is held on with magnets for easy access. Then, to draw a tile, simply move the whole tower forwards on the base, and back again….. And a tile comes sliding down the ramp!
Additional Colour Meeple Sets
Apart from the standard colour meeples, Hans im Glück has released additional meeple sets over the years, allowing for more players with more different colours!
When Big Box 5 came out, two new colours were already added: pink and purple, allowing for up to 8 players. But that wasn’t enough… Another 4 colours have become available, taking the total up to 12 different coloured meeple sets!
Additional Phantoms
Unfortunately, the Phantom has only been released in 6 colours. The original Phantom expansion had a Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Black and Purple phantom available.
Various people around the world managed to make their own phantom meeple, and we got ours from Meeplesource! These new phantoms match the colours for all 12 official meeple colours.
Crystal Meeple Sets
Following the theme from the Phantoms, we got full 19-piece sets of Crystal clear meeples! These sets stand out with their vibrant colour and are great to use in games! Just make sure you keep an eye on any phantoms from the other players if these are mixed with the normal meeple colours!
Frosted Meeple Sets
Hans im Glück also released Frosted Meeple sets! These sets also consist of the full 19 different figures (well, 8 of them are meeples), and are ready to be used with any expansions! They don’t shine in the sunlight as much as the crystal clear meeple, but they do look beautiful!
Meeple Stickers
We’ve seen meeple stickers before when Spiel Box released some as a gift in the 04/2011 edition of their magazine. And now, there are more! The 20th Anniversary Edition of Carcassonne came with a full sheet of stickers, allowing for some customisation of your game!
Meeple Bags
We’ve seen very similar meeple bags with the School expansion. However, these are slightly different. Ever so slightly bigger, with a meeple printed on just 1 side this time, and different drawstrings!
The meeple bags come in 6 colours, so you can have a separate bag per colour of meeple sets! That makes it a lot easier! Especially if you play with 2 or 3 players, you can pick your colour and then just grab those meeple bags!
Meeple Flags
In early 2019, A.D. Shrum created something unique; Meeple Flags! These flags can be used on the score track, in addition to the normal scoring meeple. Instead of having to keep track of how often a meeple has gone around the track, and instead of having to keep track with the known 50/100 tiles, these little flags actually fit on the meeple!
Hans im Glück noticed them and thought they were a very good idea! So they got in touch with Alex, and the HiG Meeple Flags were launched in December 2021 on the Cundco.de webshop. They were slightly different from the originals, being made from wood and colour-coded!
Tuckboxes
More and more mini-expansions have been released over the years, and storing them can become a challenge. Hans im Glück and Cundco.de have you covered with these little tile tuckboxes, in two different sizes! The smaller box holds up to 12 tiles comfortably, and the large box can hold up to 22 tiles, or fewer tiles but with things like gold, meeples, ferries etc. These boxes also have space on them to write the name of the contents!
Unsurprisingly, they sold out soon after being made available, leaving people wanting more. In February of 2022, Hans im Glück and Cundco.de released updated versions of them!
Box Organizers
When you’re collecting more and more of Carcassonne expansions, it comes to a point where you might be struggling with how to store it all. Having multiple boxes all together can be great, but some people like to have their game stored closer together, so when you play a game, you can bring out just 1 box and pick from there.
There are many solutions for this, and we are going to show several of them, which we use in the Carcassonne Museum.
Travel Box
What if you want to take your normal, full-sized game on the road with you? Well, there are options for that! Here we see a beautiful box for travelling! This box was made by a third party, and is specifically designed to fit a full base game! It has enough space for a full 72-tile base game and all 40 meeples!
Basically Wooden Boxes
Basically Wooden has made some great things to pimp up your game, including storage boxes! The full laser-engraved Carcassonne logo on the top of the box alone makes it a highlight in our collection!
The wood is all hardwood ply, laser cut and finished with their eco-friendly varnish. A clever hinge to open/close the box, and a great little solution to close it, make them truly a work of art!
