Traders & Builders

First Edition

First released: 2003

Traders and Builders was released in 2003 and brought some interesting new elements to the game.

The big thing is the 24 new tiles that came with this expansion! Not only are there 24 new tiles, but 22 of them have city segments on them!

And most of those city tiles have a new element: the trade goods! 9 barrels, 6 wheat, and 5 cloth are available to be obtained throughout the game now.
Whoever closes a city with one or more of these trade goods depicted on the tiles (not who scores the points, but whoever closes the city!), gets to take the tokens for those goods in front of them.
At the end of the game, the player who has the most of a type of trade good, will get 10 extra points! So there are 30 extra points available here! As usual, if there is a tie between multiple players, all players involved get the full points!

Apart from the trade goods, this expansion brings two new figures to each player!

The Builder can be placed on a city or road, where the player already has a meeple, when they extend it with another tile. If the player extends a road or city with their builder on it, they get an extra turn! (1 turn per round)

Then there is the pig. We all love the pig! You can place the pig on a farm where you already have a farmer, and if you do you get 4 points per completed city in your farm at the end of the game, instead of the usual 3!

Both the Builder and the Pig can make a big difference in a game, especially if you manage to use them optimally!
