The Wheel of Fortune
First Edition
First released: 2009
Is it an expansion? Is it a spin-off? Is it both?
The Wheel of Fortune was released in 2009, and since then has raised questions among the fan community. Although it seems to be a stand-alone game, the Wheel of Fortune utilises a full “normal” first edition base game, with new tiles and elements added to it. So it could work as an expansion, but you get a full base game with it when you buy it!
Besides the base game, this game includes a large, 4×4 starting plateau! On this plateau we see an amazing wooden wheel with 6 different segments, each with their own effect. Throughout the game, players can place meeples on the edge of the wheel, and a large (pink) pig moves around the wheel providing the following effects:
- Fortuna:
- When landing on this segment, the active player immediately receives 3 extra points!
- Tax:
- Each player receives 1 point per knight per pennant in (open) cities in the landscape.
- Famine:
- Each player receives 1 point per completed city in the farms they have any farmers in (regardless of majority).
- Storm:
- Each player receives 1 point per follower currently in their supply.
- Inquisition:
- Each player receives 2 points per follower on a cloister they have in the landscape.
- Plague:
- Each player has to remove 1 of their followers from the landscape back to their supply.
