Bridges, Castles and Bazaars

First Edition

First released: 2010

This expansion brings 3 new elements to the game.

Castles are added in the form of small tokens. When completing a 2-tile city, the player can decide to forego the usual 4 points and instead place one of these tokens and a meeple on it. Then, when the first feature within its reach of 6 tiles is completed, the castle gets those points as well!

Bazaars are introduced on the new tiles, bringing more trading and negotiating into the game. When a bazaar tile is drawn, an auction is held for face-up new tiles, equal to the number of players in the game. The active player acts as the auctioneer. Actual points are used to “pay” for the tiles. As an alternative, you can also just lay out the tiles and go around the table to have everyone pick a tile.

Finally, actual wooden bridges are added. These can really have an impact on roads and fields throughout the game! Every player gets a set number of bridges, and when placing a tile, they may add a bridge to that tile or an adjacent tile. Both ends of the bridge must (!) stand on a field segment. Bridges act like roads, can be connected to other roads, and can be claimed as such. They can help out massively with making a tile fit in a difficult place! Also, fields continue under them, so they can be a useful tool for building/connecting fields!
