No boxes were physically harmed in the making of this comparison.
You’ll find that all pictures on this site are pictures of actual boxes in our collection. We are still missing a few boxes in the Italian language, but we hope to fill these gaps soon! If you can help us with that, please contact us. If you are not sure which box you have, have a look below or contact us and we’ll be able to tell you!
Venice Connection, first printing
2004

In Italy, it took longer for the game to get a localised version. First picked up by local publisher Venice Connection, which was just joining the Giochi Uniti family, The first printing of the game in Italian was published under the Venice Connection name, and distributed by Giochi Uniti.
Venice Connection, second printing
2007

This printing is known for having the River expansion included, with a bit of an awkward mentioning of this on the front of the box. But also unique is that this is also mentioned on the side, back, and bottom of the box.
We received this box as a gift from a fellow collector in Belgium. Over the years we’ve gotten in touch and shared pictures and stories of our collections. We also try to help each other to fill gaps in our collections, and he was very kind to find and get this box for us!
Venice Connection, third printing
2007

Sometimes it takes ages to find something special. And sometimes it takes ages to realise something can be special! When discussing some oddities with a fellow collector from Belgium, they showed us a couple different editions of the C1 Venice Connection base game. With the only difference being in the logo from Venice Connection! Comparing the year of release, and the different releases from Venice Connection to put them in chronological order!
Venice Connection, fourth printing
2010

Basically the transition from Venice Connection to Giochi Uniti, the final print run from Venice Connection stands out to the others. The HiG logo is the post-2009 one, which helped a lot with putting the previous printings in order. We got this through Vinted, from Italy, when we were looking for all the different Italian releases from Venice Connection (and we succeeded!)
Giochi Uniti, first printing
2011

After distributing Carcassonne under the Venice Connection name for a few years, 2011 was the year that Giochi Uniti published the game in Italian under their own name.
Their first printing followed the design of the German 9th printing, and of course, included their logo on all sides of the box.
The river was no longer included in these printings, but it does mention on the back of the box that there are many expansions available.
Giochi Uniti, second printing
2013
